Local History Collection

Bernie Hawkins, father of Lois Simmons, began his collection of Milledgeville photos and histories during the early 1900s. Lois has been generous in donating all of her father's papers to the Milledgeville Public Library. A small group of Milledgeville residents have worked for several years, organizing Bernie's photos, making them easily accessible to residents.

All donations of photos, old newspapers, diaries, etc. will be accepted into the Local History Project. All monetary donations will be used to store our collections in a manner consistent with accepted archival practices.

We are in the process of collecting obituaries from the 1970s through the 1990s. If you have any obituaries of family members and are willing to let us copy them, please call the library.
